A New Chapter of Healing in Ghouta-Damascus, Syria

Dr. Monzer Yazji, President of UOSSM USA, proudly welcomed Minister of Health, Dr. Musab Al-Ali, along with the Assistant for Health Affairs, Mr. Hussein Al-Khatib, the Governor of Rural Damascus, Mr. Amer Al-Sheikh, and the Director of Health for Rural Damascus, Dr. Tawfiq Hasaba, to the grand opening ceremony, and inauguration of UOSSM’s Harran Alawamid Primary Healthcare Center(PHC) in Ghouta—Damascus, Syria.

This center gives access to 80,000 residents who have endured unimaginable suffering over the past 14 years in the Syrian war — including bombardment, chemical weapons attacks, besiegement, displacement, and overwhelming loss.

Rooted in the belief that health is a right for all, the PHC stands as a model of integrated, free and sustainable care, delivered by a dedicated team of doctors and specialists.

Services include:

  • Gynecology Clinic – safeguarding women’s health through every stage
  • Pediatrics Clinic – ensuring a safe and healthy childhood
  • Internal & Family Medicine – holistic care for adults and the elderly
  • Psychosocial Support – because healing starts from within
  • Wound Care & Laboratory Unit – accurate and reliable follow-up care
  • Pharmacy – access to essential medications at no cost
  • Community Health Program– raising awareness and empowering families

In his speech at the ceremony, Dr. Musab Al-Ali said, “This achievement (opening of the center) is one of many in the healthcare field (in Syria) to provide a variety of the best quality services to our people in Ghouta, which they truly deserve.”— Dr. Musab Al-Ali, Minister of Health.

A special thank you to the incredible community in Houston, TX, whose generosity made this center a reality for a community that endured 14 years of unimaginable suffering.

Now, the people of Ghouta have access to the healthcare they need to heal, thrive, and stay healthy.

Together, we are saving lives and building hope.
