Six Hospitals Attacked in Daraa, Syria

Washington DC-  Six hospitals have been partially put out of service in the past week in Daraa. The violence has rapidly escalated in several areas throughout Daraa since the 5th of February, last week. Area hospitals have been put out of service, after being targeted directly and indirectly, with others partially operating. Three nurses were wounded in the attacks, several civilians were also killed. The danger to doctors and medical staff in the area has reached a critical level endangering the civilian population. UOSSM calls for the immediate cessation of attacks against medical facilities and that perpetrators are held accountable for war crimes.

Dr. Khaula Sawah, CEO of UOSSM USA said, “I am deeply concerned by the targeting of hospitals and medical facilities in the area. These facilities are needed as people are getting wounded from the airstrikes and require immediate medical care, otherwise the numbers of casualties will rise drastically. We call on the UN and the international community to demand that international laws are observed and that doctors, medical staff and medical facilities are protected from these attacks.”
