Providing Advanced Wound Care and Health Care in Gaza

In 2024, UOSSM USA launched the Advanced Wound Care Program in Gaza as part of its humanitarian response to the ongoing crisis. Implemented by UOSSM USA with funding support from UOSSM Canada and other partners, this initiative expanded access to specialized wound care services for patients with complex wounds during a critical period of the humanitarian response.

This article highlights the launch and early implementation of this completed initiative, which formed part of UOSSM USA’s broader humanitarian response in Gaza during 2024.

The project strengthened wound care capacity by introducing Vacuum-Assisted Closure (VAC) technology and supplying essential medications and medical equipment. These efforts supported healthcare providers in delivering specialized wound care services and improving patient outcomes during a critical phase of the humanitarian response.

During the initial phase of the project, UOSSM USA delivered 23 pallets of essential medical supplies and more than 1,000 Wound VAC devices to Gaza. The project also provided advanced wound care services, outpatient and inpatient consultations, home-based care, and surgical interventions, reaching approximately 3,950 patients.
