UOSSM USA and Syrian American Foundation Hold 8th Annual Fundraising Dinner

On March 31, 2019 UOSSM USA, in collaboration with Syrian American Foundation, held the annual fundraising dinner, “Suffering in Silence” In Cincinnati, Ohio.  Dr. Khaula Sawah, Vice President and Co-Founder of UOSSM USA was one of the presenters and spoke of the dire conditions Syrian people have been living in for over eight years. Dr. Sawah spoke of UOSSM’s work and attempt to alleviate the suffering of those affected. Dr. Sawah spoke of the diverse UOSSM medical services provided to those in need. SAF members also presented the work they are doing in Syria to help with the crisis.

UOSSM Launches Advocacy Campaign About Dire Situation in Idlib

UOSSM-Canada launched an advocacy campaign in March for community members to reach out to local decision-makers about the recent escalation of events in Idlib. The campaign allows local community members to contribute in a tangible way. In line with this priority, UOSSM-Canada also conducted an online webinar on March 27th for its team of youth volunteers to train them on social advocacy.

UOSSM Holds Annual Meeting in Holland

Board members and executive staff of UOSSM met in Holland for the annual meeting. Strategic planning for the future of UOSSM was discussed. Dr. Khaula Sawah, UOSSM USA Vice-President attended the meeting.

Over 55,000 Patients Benefited from Services in Bab Al-Hawa Hospital in the Last Quarter of 2018

Over 55,000 patients benefited from services in UOSSM Bab Al-Hawa Hospital in the last quarter of 2018. Services and departments were expanded to ensure the delivery of the highest quality of care. The expansion project was sponsored by King Salman Humanitarian Aid &Relief Centre.

Impact Story- Abdul Basset Smiles

Abdul Basset refused to smile for the camera. He said he doesn’t like to smile because he is embarrassed of his teeth. He couldn’t eat anything other than tea and biscuits because everything else hurt. Abdul Basset visited our UOSSM Primary Care Center and received treatment for the decay in his teeth. His treatment plan was complicated because he had cavities in almost all his teeth. After 3 months of treatment Abd Al Basset finally agreed to smile. Since 2012, UOSSM has been providing emergency medical relief and healthcare services to the Syrian people affected by the crisis, working primarily inside Syria and with Syrian refugees in Turkey.

UOSSM:

  • In 2018, UOSSM supported 16 primary health care centers and 13 mobile clinics
  • UOSSM Bab Al Hawa Hospital provided health care services to almost 1 milion patients since establishment
  • In 2018, over 162,000 beneficiaries were provided with nutrition services focused on women and children
  • UOSSM Mental Health and Psychosocial Support provided care to 14,140 beneficiaries in 2018
